Commissioned

This is the baby quilt I came up with for a client thru my "real job" My boss paid me to create a quilt for a client who just adopted their second child. I backed it with a soft yellow flannel. All the better for snuggling.

Finshed size: est 34X 40

Denyse Schmidt Prints

Using a few of the prints from the new Denyse Schmidt line, I created a single block in her old folk art style. The dark brown is from a homespun collection - not hers, but we didn't get any of her browns or dark prints in our shop... and it needed a little stronger contrast than I had...

I'm thinking I might have to make three more to go with this one and do a scrappy 4 block throw.

One of the 16 patch blocks. I used the asian prints I have been collecting for my rectangle quilt, cut a bunch of 3 1/2 inch blocks... there are a few repeats, but not more than 4 or 5.

Ta-da

My husband is loosing his prinicpal to another school, one year before her retirement... So, hoping against hope that her fight to stay would be successful, I started this quilt thinking I would save it for her retirement, next summer. But the political powers that be moved her anyway. So, here it is in two weeks vs a year... and after many changes from my original design.

First, the sixteen patch blocks were going to be on point. But thanks to including directional prints, passed on that idea since some of the prints looked goofy sideways...

Then the four inbetween blocks were going to be one giant square with two small borders, but they looked like giant holes, and "I'm bored with this quilt, lets just get it done." So, I decided they needed a little more attention...

So, I brought back the idea of on point.... did four patch, bordered with silk. Miscalculated by 1/2 an inch on those... had to add the 1 inch border.... but turns out, I really like it this way. YEAH!

I was going to use a tannish gold print for the outer border but it was too dull and washed out the quilt. Found this great purple which toned down the pink in the inner border...Cheap me used the extra inner border fabric to patch the backing...

Finshed Quilt: roughly 48X48

The not so straight backing.
Pieced to make it more interesting and to avoid buying more fabric.
